Save the Ocean
I was shopping at a local craft reuse center when I came across a bin full of produce bags. As I looked at them I was reminded of my recent attempts at lace making and crocheting and knew then that I wanted to use them for this project. The bags reminded me of fishing nets and plastic pollution in our oceans. This then made me think about one of the biggest threats to our environment, the depletion of our coral reefs.
Coral reefs play a huge role in protecting our shorelines from storms and flooding. They also preserve the biodiversity of marine life.
In making this gown, I played with the shape and form of the bags to recreate a reef. I was inspired by so many beautiful coral like zoathids, blue stovepipe sponge, sea fans, vase coral, and many more.
